Robert L. Johnson (born 1946) is an American entrepreneur who became the first African American billionaire in 2001. He achieved this milestone after selling Black Entertainment Television (BET), the cable network he founded in 1980, to Viacom for approximately $3 billion. He later founded the RLJ Companies and owned the Charlotte Bobcats.
